Soft top surfboard rental in Faro for beginners and improvers

Our soft top surfboard rental in Faro is made for learning to surf. A soft top has a foam deck that is forgiving when you fall and stable when you paddle, so you catch more waves and spend less time chasing your board. It is the kind of board most surf schools start with, and it stays fun long after your first lesson.

Which size to choose

  • 7'0" (55 L): the shortest board, for lighter riders or surfers who already stand up
  • 7'6" and 8'0" (80 L): the all-round choice for most adult beginners
  • 8'6" (90 L): the most stable board, for heavier riders and very first sessions

Where to surf near Faro

Praia de Faro, 3 km from our shop, has small waves when a swell comes in from the south, which is good for first sessions. The west coast gets surf more often and is about an hour and a half away by car. Our guide to Algarve surf by season explains which coast works best in each month, and the Wikipedia article on surfboards explains the different board types.

How soft top surfboard rental works

First, book your board online, then collect it at our shop 1.5 km from Faro Airport and pay when you pick it up. Parking at the shop is also free. In addition, renting two boards gets you 10% off, three or more 15%. Add a wetsuit to your booking, because the Atlantic stays cool all year.

Tips for your first surf session

At first, stay in the white water close to the shore, where the water is shallow. Lie on the board so the nose stays just above the water, and paddle hard before the wave reaches you. In summer, surf on beaches with lifeguards, keep away from rocks and give other surfers space. If you are new to surfing, a lesson on your first day helps a lot.
