Our SUP rental in Faro puts you on the water minutes from the airport. Stand-up paddleboarding is easy to learn on flat water, and Faro sits right next to the Ria Formosa, a lagoon of calm channels and sandbanks that is one of the best places in Portugal to start.

What the SUP set includes

  • An inflatable stand-up paddleboard that folds into a bag, so it fits in any regular car
  • 2 paddles and an air pump
  • A bag for storage and transport
  • Elastic cords on the board for your towel, water and snacks

Where to paddle near Faro

The Ria Formosa is calm but tidal, so plan your paddle around the tides. Our Ria Formosa paddleboarding guide explains the tides, routes and launch spots, and Wikipedia has more about the Ria Formosa lagoon. Add a snorkel set to explore quiet coves along the coast.

How SUP rental works

One board carries one person standing or two people sitting, and many couples share one board. First, book online, then collect your SUP at our shop 1.5 km from Faro Airport and pay when you pick it up. Parking at the shop is also free. In addition, renting two boards gets you 10% off, three or more 15%.

Tips for paddleboarding

Start on your knees in calm water, then stand up with your feet parallel and hip-width apart, looking ahead rather than down. Paddle into the wind on the way out, so it helps you on the way back. Check the tide times before you go, take water and sun cream, and tell someone where you are paddling.
