Driving with children in Portugal
In Portugal, children under 12 who are shorter than 135 cm must travel in a child seat that suits their weight and height. Babies are safest facing backwards, and this seat turns all the way round, so you can fit it the way the instructions give for your child's height. Wikipedia explains the different types of child safety seat. For older children we also rent a child car seat (9 to 36 kg) and a booster seat.
How baby car seat rental works
First, book the seat online, then collect it at our shop on your way out of Faro Airport and pay when you pick it up. We have a limited number of these seats, so book early for your dates. Parking at the shop is also free, so you can fit the seat in your car right there.
Good to know
Most modern cars have ISOFIX points between the seat back and the seat cushion; ask your car hire company if you are not sure. Click the seat's ISOFIX arms into them, then fasten the Top Tether strap to its anchor point, usually behind the back seat or in the boot. Never fit the seat facing backwards on a front seat with an active airbag. Also watch the installation video before you travel, so fitting takes just a few minutes.
